Treatments to Reduce Wrinkles

How do wrinkles come to be?

You probably might’ve seen wrinkles on people who are quite old like your grandparents or parents even. Older people’s skins are not as elastic as young people and they also tend to get drier quicker. Young people’s skin can recover quickly from damages as opposed to people of age. Frowning, laughing, smiling, and squinting are some of the simple expressions that cause wrinkles and lines on your face as you get older.

Different people start to develop wrinkles and fine lines at different ages due to unique skin tones and different lifestyles. People with a thicker layer of skin generally tend to resist any type of wrinkles and fine lines better than people who have a finer skin layer. Some external factors that might influence wrinkles are smoking, dehydration, exposure to the sun, and medication that might cause dryness.

Ultraviolet (UV) lights also accelerate the development of wrinkles.

UV light breaks down the collagen in the skin. Collagen breaks down when exposed to UV light and collagen, as we know, is the main building protein in our skin. Our skin starts to lose its elasticity and brightness as collagen breaks down which results in the appearance of wrinkles. People have a higher chance of developing wrinkles early if they work in sunlight, the only solution is the cover the exposed skin but the drawback would be dehydration.

Smoking also accelerates wrinkle appearance because it slows down blood flow, which in turn slows down collagen production.

What can you do to prevent them?

  • Moisturize and use sunscreen

Moisturizer helps hydrate your skin and gives it the nutrients it needs. Your skin becomes like a desert (very dry) as you get older, which causes the skin the wrinkle more. Moisturizers containing Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are particularly successful at keeping wrinkles from framing and getting further. It is a little-known fact that sunscreen can help prevent cancer and research has shown that it can also help you look younger. Even though people mostly use sunscreens at the beach, it will be a good habit if you start to make use of sunscreen daily.

  • Cut out smoking

Smoking can make you look older and it is also detrimental to your health in several ways. Studies showed that the difference between two siblings (where one had a smoking habit and the other didn’t), the visible difference in their physical appearance was immense. Living in a household where someone smokes can also be harmful to you through passive smoking.

  • Eat vitamin-rich food

Research showed that diet was an essential factor in wrinkles appearing on your skin. People with an unhealthy diet that includes red meat and processed foods showed to have more wrinkles compared to people with a healthy diet. Foods that you should include in your healthy diet are salmon, vegetables, flax seeds, green tea, and so on.
