Cooling down skin burnt by sun

The skin is a very sensitive organ which is most exposed to sun and other environmental pollution. It actually plays the role of a barrier between our inner body and the external environment. It has three layers, which provide sufficient defense from dirt particles to the inner body. Due to exposure to ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun, free radicals are produced in our body. They are highly charged oxygen molecules which get attached to our skin. They attack cells and damage DNA present inside our cells.

In order to avoid these, most people use sunscreens. But according to dermatologists, sunscreens are also not sufficient for protecting our skin from the dangerous effects of UV rays. Sunburns may still occur even after wearing sunscreen. Dermatologistssuggest to use natural products in order to protect one’s skin. For treating sunburns, one may use ingredients that are already available in the kitchen or in the bathroom. The dermatologists have suggested alternative ways to sunscreen for protecting our skin, which are as follows:-

  • Aloe Vera:-Aloe Vera is a plant that can be grown in a garden of any household. The gel inside aloe vera provides a cooling relief. It is used as an inflammatory product which helps calm and soothe sunburned skin. It is best suggested that people who are exposed to sun in summer should keep a bottle of aloe Vera. For better uses, one may directly use the gel from the actual plant and apply whenever it is needed.
  • Hyaluronic acid: It has inflammatory properties. According to plastic surgeons, whenever one feels sunburn on face, then he should apply a facial serum, in which there is hyaluronic acid. It helps speed up the healing process of the skin. It is also something that is produced naturally by the body. It keeps skin moisturized and plump as it is a hydrating substance. Also, it prevents the skin from further irritation.
  • White vinegar. According to some doctors other than hyaluronic acid and aloe Vera, the best thing that can be used for relieving the pain and inflammation of sunburnskin, one may use white vinegar. It should be applied to the affected skin area, which will help prevent the infection. It is made up of acetic acid. It is also used as an antiseptic, hence it keeps the affected area clean.
  • Baking soda: The natural pH of skin may be altered when treating any sunburn. In order to balance the pH level of the affected skin area, baking soda and water should be applied to it for 15 minutes.
  • Green tea: Dermatologist also suggests addition of green tea to the composition of baking soda and water. Green tea contains polyphenols that have anti inflammatory properties. It can be simply used by steeping green tea leaves and then soaking a wash cloth in the tea.
  • Green yoghurt: The green yoghurt has also anti inflammatory properties due to the lactic acid that is present in it. It moisturizes and soothes the sunburnskin. As compared to traditional yoghurt, Greek yoghurt is thicker and has more probiotics. Recent research says that more usage of probiotics decreases sensitivity and redness of the skin. Sunburn can be treated at home by using yoghurt to the face and body and rinsing it after 15 minutes.
