Using Gua Sha correctly

It is very easy to use the Gua Sha stone. You simply slide the stone over the skin’s smooth edges twice, once from the inside out for the face and once from the outside in for the neck, shoulders, and arms. applying light pressure to the edges of the head, neck, and face as you move and where you stop.

Use the various sides of the handpiece depending on the area of the face, neck, and shoulders you plan to treat while keeping it slightly angled at a 45° angle rather than perpendicular to the ground.

We strongly advise using a rich, nourishing cream—even one designed specifically for the neck—or a viscous serum or face oil on the affected area before massaging it with the proper tool to make it slide more easily. and avoid causing friction that might itch the skin.

It is advised to avoid this massage technique for people with particularly sensitive skin, who may have skin that has been irritated by sunburn, rosacea, or pustular acne, even though the side effects are minimal.

From nourishing creams to sleeping masks, from serums to face oils, a variety of cosmetics can be used to make the skin’s surface more slippery. If you have the time, using gua sha on the face in the morning when the face may be more swollen is ideal.

Clean the handpiece thoroughly with soap and water both before and after the treatment. It would also be a good idea to disinfect it with alcohol before putting it back in its case to avoid contaminating the package.

  • Lifting the jawline and gliding the stone outward from the chin’s center to the earlobe will help to clear obstructions and shape. After the movement, apply pressure.
  • Head: Begin at the center of the forehead, work your way outwards along the right and left sides, dividing each into three sections. Start at the eyebrows and scrape twice toward the hairline, stopping at the hairline and lightly pressing the area;
  • Cheek: Begin at the nose and move toward the ears while sweeping outward along the cheeks and cheekbones. Scrape once, go down lightly, and massage again. Go down a little more towards the center of the chin and smooth again;
  • Under the eyes, begin at the iridocorneal corner and move outward to the temple with the tool;
  • Eyebrows: preferably using the portion with the two “tips,” slide the stone upward along the eyebrow arch from the inside out;
  • Five times back-and-forth motions with the stone on the lips will produce a plumping effect.
  • Neck: Dissect the neck into four areas and scratch each spot from the bottom up.

Instead, in the evening you can have a massage to release tension in the neck and shoulders:

  • Back neck until the tension starts to progressively melt away along the spine from bottom to top. Apply light pressure to the base of the head at the hairline.
  • Light pressure between the jaw, neck, and chin, under the ear, and shoulders moves from the outermost part of the shoulder to the neck.
  • the middle portion of the neck, right and left clavicles, and chin.

When should you use it?

You are advised to perform facial gua sha at least twice or three times per week. This can be done in the morning to reduce swelling or in the evening, right before bed, to ease facial tension.

Like skincare, self-care should be enjoyable, so everyone will give this massage a try at their discretion. As for the massage itself, we are all aware of the key points on the face where tension is concentrated.
