How to treat rosacea in the best possible way

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory pathology of the skin that mainly affects women. We tell you what is the best way to treat it.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory pathology of the skin that affects the central facial area (nose, chin, cheekbones and forehead) It occurs more frequently in light skin, especially women and in middle age, between 30 and 60 years. Being less common, it can affect men, in which case the symptoms are usually more severe.

There are 4 defined types but today we will focus mainly on subtype 1, also called erythematotelangiectatic. The symptoms of rosacea usually appear in outbreaks, with periods of calm between them and progressively:

At first, occasional, short-lived redness or erythema appears, which becomes more and more frequent until they become permanent redness.

Subsequently, the so-called telangiectasias appear, which are nothing more than branched capillaries that dilate and become visible under the thin skin of the cheeks, taking on the appearance of a reddish or violet spider web. They are also usually present, accompanying the previous ones: burning, itching and oedema.

In the most severe cases of rosacea, hypertrophy (enlargement) of the sebaceous glands can occur, especially in the nose, giving rise to a bulbous appearance called rhinophyma, which is more common in men.

It is a chronic disease, which must be diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist. Once diagnosed, its treatment, being chronic, cannot be focused on seeking a cure, but rather on slowing down the evolution, reducing the number and duration of outbreaks, improving the condition and comfort of the skin, etc. In addition to following the treatment indicated by the specialist, it is advisable to have a specific daily care routine for this condition.

Steps to take care of your skin with rosacea

Cleaning

Daily cleansing of the skin, morning and night, is a basic part of any routine, but if you have rosacea you must take certain precautions such as avoiding water that is too hot, even in body hygiene, since steam and heat will also affect the face. It is preferable that you opt for a product without rinsing for facial hygiene and that it helps to refresh the skin.

Hydration

After cleaning, the foot must always be hydrated, so we will provide it with both the necessary water and the lipids that it may have lost due to the cleaning itself or naturally throughout the day. Specially, we will do it in these skins that are very thin and very dry.

Protection

Rosacea is exacerbated by exposure to cold and heat, with UVA, UVB and Infrared (IR) radiation, so you should protect your skin from the sun every day, even if it’s cloudy. Solar radiation also affects your skin causing dryness and ageing.

Other care

In addition to most cosmetic care, it is very important for your skin that you follow a healthy diet, rich in vitamins, and antioxidants,… Also that you drink water to maintain good hydration.

You should avoid those factors that can trigger an outbreak such as alcohol intake, tobacco, sudden changes in temperature, intense cold and heat, hot, highly spiced or spicy foods,…

Stress and intense emotional situations also often trigger rosacea flare-ups, so you should avoid them as much as possible.
